Hi everyone! November has been a very exciting month for me and Jonathan. On halloween, I ended up chopping the $33k knockout on FTP for 11k. Jon drove to Biloxi with his friend, Dragon on Halloween. I met up with them a few days later after a very annoying and drama filled plane ride. In Biloxi, I bubbled 2 out of 3 tournaments I played, and did fairly well in cash games. Jon almost won a WSOP circuit ring. He ended up 2nd after going HU for the ring. He was dominated by hi opponent in chips, 5:1 so he would've had to double a few times to catch up. In any case, he did great! I am so proud of him. Harrah's is in a few weeks and I hope to cash in some tournies there as well.
Online the last few weeks has been a bit tough. I did final table three tournaments since Nov 1, but variance in general has not been on my side. Especially the last week- I feel like every flip I take, every time i have aa v kk i lose and then i get it in kk v aa, and lose, its just torture. But I will remain focused. I want so badly to finish the year at +100k net in poker; I have a lot of work to do to get that done (another 26k or so). I will let you know how I fare in this.
In other news, my niece Nicolette is such a little cutie pie, I love her so much. I go to see her as often as I can. Thanksgiving was wonderful- we spent it with Jon's family and then went to my family for dessert. Jon and I also spent a few days with my grandma, Nonna Carmela cooking and learning recipes- i liked that a lot. It was very nice to spend time with family. I like that Jon is close to his family like I am to mine.
Work has been busy; my partner Cesar got married this weekend- the day after thanksgiving. He will be away on his honeymoon, which means it will be a little busier for me. Jon and I went to look at a beautiful townhouse in Port Jefferson this weekend- I want it sooo soo bad. I really hope it is still on the market when our co-op finally sells. It may take a while.

Hey Connie! How are you? Glad to see you've been doing well! I knew you would. I started off the year running horrendous like never before, I was almost convinced the game couldn't be beat, I just hung in there and tried limiting my losses. It lasted 6 months, taking horrendous beats, getting sucked out on etc. NOTHING HELD UP and AS I MISSED EVERY DRAW IT SEEMED MY OPPONENTS HIT EVERY DRAW AGAINST ME!! Flopping sets against my over pairs constantly...ugh! It was the worst run I had since I started playing. It was so bad it defied math to the extreme. Then a sudden change of fortune for me. I was in Smithtown stopping @ a deli for lunch and a strange woman walks over to my truck asking me if I could buy her and her daughter coffee and bagels. I said i'm sorry but I only have a few dollars, just enough to buy myself lunch. She walked away thanking me anyway and I proceeded to park my truck elsewhere in the lot. Walking up to the deli now I see her parked in front asking someone else for money. I suddenly feel guilty (having $3,000 in my pocket) I walk up to her car and ask her whats wrong? Why are you in need of money? She tells me her husband died a few months prior and her benefits had been cut off. She was very poor. Her and her daughter were around the corner praying in front of an abortion clinic and they were cold and hungry. I told her to park her car and I would take care of her... She met me inside and asked if I wouldn't mind buying them a small coffee and bagel each. I said order whatever you want, sandwiches drinks etc its on me. She said thank you so much but we will be happy with 2 small coffees and a bagel. After paying for the food we were walking out to the parking lot and she turned to me and said Mark please take this as a token of my appreciation. She pulled her jacket back and had a few religious pins on her lapelle. She took a Mother Theresa pin off and said please take this and keep it close to your heart, God bless you. I said thank you and graciously accepted her gift. I wore it for a few days then pinned it to my sun visor. Since that very day, I have won 18 out of my last 20 sessions for a total of nearly $30,000!! My biggest month ever!! Take from it what you want, just wanted to share this story with you. How did you and John do in that $560 deepstack? I was card dead the entire tournament, hung in there through half the field by stealing an occasional pot. Finally looked down at AsKs and pushed all in after an early position raise. He totally had fold equity as my all in was almost half his stack. He calls with AQ off and of course spikes a Q on the turn!! Ugh! Back to the grind at the cigar shop...

We both busted the Borgata- I finished with abou 80 left. I don't know if you know Coldstone Dave...he plays ok, but he busted me in a weird hand. I really can't get into some players' heads. Happy New Year! May 2011 be the best year yet!! Interesting poker experience, I was in Vegas recently, stayed at the Venetian to play their deep stacks. I satellite into the $1,100 tourny and get seated at the toughest table by far that I ever played at! 6 of the 10 players I would consider played at a professional level. They play a lot different on the west coast compared to AC and Foxwoods. There are a lot of min raises preflop. If the blinds are 100-200 they make it 425 to go, kinda weird... Anyway, there's one guy all dressed up in Poker Stars gear raising 33% of the hands preflop. It got annoying after a while so I decide to pick a spot to get involved with him. He's 2 seats to my right. I'm in the BB and the table folds to him. Blinds are 200-400 he raises to 925. I look down at Kh9h and decide to call. The flop comes Ks5h2c. I check, he bets 1300, I call. The turn is the Ah. Not the worst card for me but I decide to check out of position knowing he's a gunslinger, sure enough he bets 3000 and I call again. The river is the 9h giving me the nutz! I check, he fires a 3rd bullet betting 4800. I start playing the whole lost in the hand tourist routine, counting my chips, looking disgusted and confused, finally just shoving all my chips in which was 8,000 more. He thinks for a second and calls I think out of embarrassment more than anything. I turn over the nutz, he mucks face down and the table goes nuts!! At the break I find out that player is Jason Mercier!!! lol

That is a good story! I really like Jason Mercier; he is an awesome player. He was at Jon's main event table for the $3500 at Borgata last January, I believe. It sounds that you played ur hand well, although I think maybe check shoving the turn would be beter because you are representing so much more strength than check calling. It is difficult to play out of position, especially against a tough opponent. I am sure Mercier had a lower flush, or at minimum, a set. It is difficult to call a check raise on river without a big hand, even if you are getting a good price mathematically bc you tournament stack is so valuable as opposed to a cash game.
Anyway, we may be in Vegas in Feb for DS series at Ven, or we might just wait till May- we are up in the air
